The Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs task force made a drug bust in North Douglas and seized a total of 46 ounces of processed marijuana, according to the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.
The bureau said in a dispatch that troopers detected the odor of “cultivating marijuana” coming from a residence on North Douglas Highway while they were investigating an unrelated case on Monday.
Troopers executed a search warrant on the house on Wednesday with assistance from the Juneau Police Department.
Law enforcement discovered a marijuana grow in the residence, and they seized marijuana packaged for sale, a digital scale, suspected drug proceeds and items relating to cultivating marijuana.
Troopers said a suspect was contacted at the residence, but no names were released. Criminal charges alleging three counts of fourth-degree drug misconduct will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office, the dispatch states.
SEACAD is one of the seven statewide drug enforcement units in Alaska that operates under the umbrella of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.

The drug forces are involved when they have to be. Some mad user rolls a dealer when they no longer can get a front from them,bf/gf gets mad during a break-up and tells on them,a dope fiend gets arrested and turns in the towns people to go free,or in this case, there is so much scent of it in the outside air a cop passing by gets a wiff of it. It will not stop one user from getting high today. In Juneau, there is always another pot slinger to go to if one is arrested or needs to re-up on product. Pot has been on the ballot time and time again. Growers flock to Alaska to get the best prices and believe me, Alaskan's will pay it! Soon as the legal blunts hit the streets of Colorado and Washington, they will infest Alaska the same day. It's time for a change. Legalize it,tax it,and be done with it. Pot is here in Alaska to stay. We don't need no stinking oil to survive because a barrel of weed is worth MORE than a barrel of oil would ever be...

That makes sense only if you believe all laws are honorable and upright. I do not. What if this were some other issue like say... guns. I don't know about you but if guns were outlawed, I would still own a gun. I am free because I don't let the government tell me what to do.
Marijuana laws are stupid and destructive. The only reason I follow those laws is because I don't like pot. I wouldn't smoke it if it were illegal. I am more of a beer man but I am not prone to tell other people how to unwind.
As I see it, we just lost one business in North Douglas and now people will buy more from a bunch of thugs in Mexico.
What about medical users?
There are cancer patients and other ill people who benefit from pot. But if growers aren't allowed to have more than a "personal use" quantity, where/how are patients supposed to get it? I guess we all should have a few plants growing in our houses just in case we need it, since the feds want to arrest all the humanitarians who grow enough to share.
God put it here for a reason...
so why not use it? Jesus turned water into wine. The Lord provided us with natural pleasures, so why not utilize them as we see fit?
If an 8th cost me $60 right now, which is a heck of a lot compared to other places, the dealer/seller is keeping a portion of that, who then bought it from someone else that's keeping a portion of it... just imagine if we legalized pot (to some limit) and let the government tax the crap out of it like they do all other sins (lottery, gambling, smoking, alchool). I mean, the city alone takes in almost $2 million a year in "sin" tax. Just imagine how much it could make in a pot tax! Let alone our federal government.
Portugal decriminalized marijuana and found that illegal drug use dropped by 50% (when you factor out marijuana use/abuse).... makes you go hmmm.
So why not let me go see my pharmacist at Freddy's and get an 8th, pay $50 or what not for farm-produced and SAFE marijuana (with some of that $$ going to Uncle Sam), versus some of the crap we're getting now that could have any mix of chemicals in it.
Plus, isn't marijuana the only DEA schedule II drug that isn't addictive or won't kill you if you overdose?
Great point!!
All the gun nuts and pot heads need to get together and make a pact. If the gun people vote in favor of legal pot next to around, there will be more then enough support, and whenever anyone comes after the guns, the pot heads will be there to add numbers and support as well! Mutual respect for personal freedoms!
Hey! LibHater!

Legal
I agree with most of the posts that the public should stay out of your individual private business. What you do at hope is your business. The issue in my mind is when your internal choices become external (i.e. you drive or sell to individuals who are not of a state of mind to make adult decisions such as children. My only caviate to that is if you are doing drugs (meth, pot, or even alcohol) that impares your ability to properly tend to and protect your children (cigarett smoke in the room with your child and you are equally failing to protect your children). If you can't respond to a fire or other emergency with a clear mind you may need to question your ability to parent. I'm not saying an occasional hit or drink makes you a bad parent, but if you are continually/regularly out of it, some questions should be asked.
for me
My only issue is that of taxation. It bothers me when i bust my butt for an honest living and some guy gets to sit on his butt and not have to pay any taxes on his income......
after readin the posts, my question is this-
How do we get the legalization of recreational use on the next voting ballot??? Let's vote on it and pray that it passes, rather than just sitting behind a keyboard and posting on every article regarding herb about how we want it to be legal.

Piggie, you crack me up.
Piggie, you crack me up. First you ask "what did he do that was illegal?" and then you immediately describe his illegal action. Good point.
Hiker, you're free because of
Hiker, you're free because of your constitution. If you don't like a law or regulation, lobby to have it changed.
gateway drug?
Every person I know who uses drugs started by drinking....milk. Let's ban milk and save society.
Illegal search
I spent plenty of time on the topic of marijuana use and the false information coming from a certain councilor at rain forest. Long story short bill.... It's BS. Not one study noted that hasn't been shot down by proper scientific method. If I knew who signed that warrant I would vote him down next election. I am sure I am not alone .
Marijuana gets a bad rap.
Marijuana gets a bad rap. Tobacco and alcohol are the true gateway drugs.
kflynn
Not for nothing, but, if you think the dealers are sitting on their butts, you definitely don't know a dealer..... every day they're shufflin.......
hello all
hello all
I did a google search on SEACAD. These drug unit officers
should be wearing capes. Over 19 pages of drug interdictions and in every event SEACAD is credited.
Not bad considering their size:
1 Assistant sergeant @Juneau overseeing S.E.
The Sitka PD chief as administrative project manager.
1 Alaska State Trooper investigator.
1 criminal justice investigator.
1 Petersburg PD investigator.
1 SEACAD investigator with K-9.
haha
Pot. The only thing I have against pot and it's users is when the user runs out. They turn into [filtered word]s.
Why not let them have it for a better Juneau?
really what about the other HARD drugs
a kid in high school walking around trying to sell meth to other students and nothing has happened yet, juneau is getting infested with herion, meth........what about these drugs for heaven sa~aches
stop the maddness teach your children about people like this, teach them to report drug dealers in their school. becuase you know if a kid is bring it in to the school.... its because they are getting it from someone to old to go into the schools themselves, so someone with an addiction problem would do anything for their addiction even sell on school grounds.
this is how Ryan West most likey started out now look at him.....
SOMEONE HELP US here in Juneau.
Re. Poll
That was the first good reason to use those thumbs above posts I have seen. A poll. Take a vote. Good on ya, Treyshawn. Kinda looks like the "war on drugs" is getting the short end of the poll. I think it is a waste of tax dollars. It's about time pot contributes to the economy rather than suck it dry. But, be aware. When pot is legal, revenuers will be invading homes suspected of growing like they did with moonshine stills. Can't have those tax evading grow operations cutting into government revenue.
Paul Ryan
Ryan West started out playing football and it is just as easy to blame football for his downfall as pot. actually there isn't any evidence that he smoked pot so football is more likely his gateway.
By the way, I like football and played it in high school. I smoked pot in high school too. Everybody did. I did not gateway to any hard drugs or crime.
r u kidding
The hard drugs in this town pale in comparison as the addict issues in Anchorage and Mat Valley. Although there might be a higher percentage of weed smokers, there is a relatively small (albeit visible) meth/OC problem in Juneau.
lets all sit down
for the supporters, get your doobies out. for you nay sayers, you ever watch Kat Williams stand up? grab a seat, smoke some sweet, and let yourself relax. Its December 2012 y'all! ITS THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!
damage to the prefrontal lobe?
I'm going to assume you meant the prefrontal cortex. The anterior portion of the frontal lobe, where executive decision are carried out. Sure, you can say marijuana can damage it. Just like stress can damage it. But you know what is far more damaging to this part of the brain? Alcohol and cigarettes. I'm sure you would object to the fact that Alaska has the highest alcohol tax in the union as well. I'm sure you find it disturbing that as an Alaskan YOU profit from alcohol and cigarettes being consumed at a higher rate than any other state in the union.
Oh, and pot helps with stress. If you want to argue we need to outlaw stress then maybe you are worth listening to. The whole "damage to the prefrontal cortex" argument is a farce. Anyone who uses it is dismissed as a hypocritical nincompoop. FYI.
