Add commentA long flight!
I do remember the flight from Seattle to Juneau in a DC 3 (or4) took all day and Ya had to refuel! Then a Goose to Sitka.
Cool
Looks like it might as well have been an alien space craft, looks like most of town showed up to see it.
I was just an infant then, but I might be in that photo somewhere.
Flyby.
I think this is the jet that did a flyby down Tongass Narrows ,along Ketchikans waterfront, the same day.
The flyby was a planned event and many Ketchikan residents lined the waterfront to see the aircraft.
The visibility was good and the jet was pretty low as it went by,northbound.
Ketchikan got its' own airport in 1974?
COOOOOL!!!
COOOOOL!!!

What fun to see this photo. I arrived in Juneau on that flight. I had never flown before so this was very impressive. We had menues for our breakfast and each received a small Alaskan flag. As we left the jet we were welcomed by and shook hands with Gov. Egan and others and were filmed by the local TV station. An awesome start to my 40 years in Juneau.
Awwww Jeeze does that take me back
Yeah, I was there and later took a ride. And rode on the first 727 to come into service too-I'll never forget lifting off and then going 60-degrees up full power.....just to show off. Wow! What a change from the Clippers and Connies. Of course you sometimes still rode a DC 3 or an old Convair to ANC at times.
Took a "champagne flight" to ANC on a DC-3 one evening. All passengers were men. Flight lady came out.....dragged a case of champagne into the aisle and slid if toward tail and announced...."Okay you guys, serve yourselves." What a hoot. Fun trip.
I DO miss the old Alaska.

Times certainly have changed haven't they! Flying was actually fun in those days and we 'dressed up' for it. I miss it too.
What?
No TSA? And no, it was not a different world then.
Jet at the Airport
Our terminal building was already old by the time this photo was taken. We are still using parts of that same edifice today! I loved the old goose & PBY's, but the jet sure went a lot faster.
