Coast Guard, rescue team locates overdue boater near Sitka

An 85-year-old overdue boater was located in the Sitka Sound and was safely returned to his family on Tuesday evening, according to the Coast Guard.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka located the man aboard his 32-foot fishing vessel, Saltshaker, and guided a Sitka Mountain Rescue boat crew to the location to provide assistance, Petty Officer First Class Sara Francis said in a release.

The Coast Guard began searching for the man after the man’s son contacted Sector Juneau to report that his father hadn’t returned from a hunting trip after the two became separated.
