Storis museum sees setback

Posted: December 10, 2012 - 1:01am

The proposed Storis Museum had a not unanticipated setback when Section 615 on STORIS was removed from the Coast Guard Authorization Act (HR 2838). The House passed its version last year, while the Senate held the bill for a year before amending it. The final bill is anticipated to be completed this week.

According to a press release, “The Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2012 reauthorizes the activities of the Coast Guard through fiscal year 2014 at levels that allow the requested 1.7 percent across-the-board pay raise and provide for an increase for fiscal 2014 at the future established annual COLA rate. Overall, the legislation provides $8.6 billion in fiscal year 2013 and $8.7 billion in

fiscal year 2014 to support the mission of the Coast Guard and the brave men and women who wear the uniform.”

The Storis museum is moving forward with contingency plans and does not intend to give up on STORIS.

Alaska's first museum ship

Who is responsible for this second "disappearance" of wording in the Senate bill?

Who would do this to Alaska? To its congressional delegation? To the maritime preservation movement over all?

This is an affront.
