Here's a view of Coulters Quartz Mill near Juneau, Alaska. Located on Gold Creek just above Ebner Falls, it later became the first Ebner mill circa 1867 to 1896. Winter & Pond too this image in the area of Silverbow Basin.

The big mill on the right is actually the Takou Union Mill built by J.A.Johnson. It was referred to as the "Coulter Quartz Mill" for just one season in 1889. Winter & Pond published this photo but were not in business until 1891. Most likely they inherited the image from Juneau's first resident photographer, George Landerkin, who they bought out. Dr. H.S.Wyman's Dora Arrastra Mill is visible at the left of the photo.

Really? !867? Joe Juneau and Richard Harris didn't come to the area until 1880. I think this needs amending.
Circa
Circa gives some wiggle room, and that's what it says at the bottom of the photo.
Huh
Can you believe it? They mined the entire valley with absolutely no environmental controls. No reclamation ever done. Now it’s Juneau's favorite park.
