Police respond to armed robbery at Mendenhall Mall on Thursday

Posted: December 13, 2012 - 9:28pm  |  Updated: December 16, 2012 - 1:08am

Police say there was an armed robbery at a pull tab shop in the Mendenhall Mall Thursday evening.

Police responded to the reported robbery shortly after 7 p.m. at 9105 Mendenhall Mall Road.

Sgt. Chris Gifford, one of the responding officers, confirmed Thursday police were actively looking for the suspect.

Responding police officers and detectives interviewed an employee at the shop, who was not available for comment.

Police radio traffic indicated the suspect was wearing a face mask, which is also what one witness at a neighboring shop in the mall said.

“It wasn’t really like a ski mask, it’s like a beanie covering his face,” Terra Beler, a 24-year-old hair dresser at Salon 2211, said in an interview while she was dying a customer’s hair.

She said she and another employee watched the man walk past their store.

“His eyes weren’t covered. He didn’t look like he just robbed the place,” she added. “He just looked normal.”

Police said in a later release that the suspect had walked into the business, demanded money and threatened the victim with a handgun. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police described him as being a male in his mid-20s, about 5’5” tall, skinny build, and light blue eyes. He was wearing a black mask, dark-colored clothing and carrying a backpack, the release states.

Anyone with information about this crimes is asked to call JPD at 586-0600.

The pull tab shop?

Just thinking out loud here ... I'm asking myself why the pull tab shop with all the other businesses in the mall. The pull tab business isn't exactly a shining beacon of integrity. Dealers and operators have been known to skim some of the profits. A robbery could cover up a problem before an audit.

Strange.....

Why a pull tab shop and not

Why a pull tab shop and not another business in the mall? A pull tab shop is a cash only business.

Tweekers?

Before long we will probably read that this thief is a meth user supporting his habit.
