2-vehicle crash near Fred Meyer sends 3 to hospital

Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a crash at the recently improved intersection of Egan Drive and Yandukin Drive near the Fred Meyer store.

A 16-year-old driver was cited Thursday evening for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left after his 2005 Subaru Legacy collided with an inbound 1994 Chevrolet van while he was turning onto Yandukin Drive from Egan Drive.

Juneau police responded at 6:38 p.m. to the two-vehicle accident.

Traffic was reduced to a single lane in the inbound lanes of Egan Drive for about 30 minutes.

Both of the vehicles were totaled. The two occupants of the van, a 40 year-old male and a 42 year-old female, as well as the driver of the Subaru were transported by ambulance to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment, police said Thursday night in a prepared release.

The intersection was the site of a summer construction project. Turn lane configurations were modified and lanes restriped in part to increase the visibility of oncoming traffic to motorists making a turn there.
