Julianne Curry is the new executive director for the United Fishermen of Alaska.
Curry most recently worked for six years with the Petersburg Vessel Owners Association. She also served on UFA’s Executive Committee as chair of subsistence for five years before taking on the committee’s public relations and membership chair.
Curry assumes her new post in Juneau on Jan. 1. She is based in the capital through the legislative session.
Mark Vinsel is the committee’s outgoing executive. According to a UFA press release, Vinsel plans to transition back to administrative work after his eight years as executive.
United Fishermen Vice President Bruce Wallace will serve as interim president after former president Arni Thomson stepped down. Thomson held the position for nearly three years.
Wallace took over his new role Monday. He will serve at least until the full board elects a new president in Feb. Paul Shadura will serve as interim vice president.
"I anticipate a smooth transition as UFA undergoes this period of change,” Wallace said in a UFA press release.
The United Fishermen of Alaska represents 35 member organizations across the state.
