Capital City Fire/Rescue personnel carry a male driver from his overturned car on Egan Drive between Glacier Highway and Mendenhall Loop Road on Wednesday.

The police have identified two men who were involved in a single vehicle rollover crash on Egan Drive on Wednesday afternoon.

Sgt. Dominic Branson said in a release that 22-year-old Juneau resident Silver Maake was driving the vehicle that crashed and 23-year-old Siaosi Maake was a passenger in the vehicle. Branson said in a phone interview that he believed the two are cousins.

Both were taken to the hospital after being extricated from the vehicle by Capital City Fire/Rescue personnel, according to the release, and police said their injury status was unknown.

Siaosi Maake is currently in the process of being medevaced from Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., confirmed Bartlett Regional Hospital spokesman Jim Strader.

Strader could not say whether Siaosi’s injuries were life-threatening, and a condition status was not provided. It was unknown if the family has been contacted.

Police said they responded to the report of the crash after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on Egan Drive near the Glacier Highway intersection by McDonald’s.

An investigation revealed that Silver Maake lost control of the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, left the roadway and struck a light pole before coming to a stop against a pedestrian bridge alongside Egan Drive, the release states. The vehicle was totalled and towed from the scene.

Speed is a suspected factor in the crash, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

My husband and I witnessed

My husband and I witnessed this accident happen...as a matter of fact, I fear that if I had not gone into the turning lane at the light to turn left by McDonald's, that we too may have ended up in this horrific accident. Our thoughts are with the driver and family, and pray that the results are good.

It is unfortunate that people make poor driving decisions in poor road and weather conditions...this driver was going very very fast...and although it is tragic that this accident happend, it was as if we knew what was about to happen the way he was driving. Please be careful when you are out on the roads...nothing in this town is worth getting to in a hurry.

Hope all is okay for driver....

I pray this person is fine. Aggressive/fast driving is an issue everyday. The scary drives are after work in the dark and visibility is poor or when the roads are slick, what's the big hurry peeps. Again, hope all is well for the driver. Sloooooooooooooooow down Juneau drivers....like junomom said, nothing is worth driving so fast to in this town...let's all get to our destination safely.

I was trying to be

I was trying to be considerate because this man's family may be reading these comments...however, I will say this. My husband and I as well as 2 of our children watched as this car came zooming passed us, nearly clipping us and then we watched as he slammed on his breaks, fishtailed and then hit the light post...when we called 911, the dispatch said he was clocked at over 100 mph...and since he zoomed right past us, that speed seems about right. I don't know what would possess anybody to drive like that during this kind of weather, OR ANYTIME of year for that matter...people seem to forget all the families on the road, all the children that are in those cars, and all the many people that just want to get home to their loved ones, or wherever their destination may be. I THANK GOD that we got into the other lane, because I can almost be sure that my other children who were not in the car with us, would have lost their parents and siblings today. While we do pray that he is okay, and will come through this, I hope that some sort of charges are filed against him as he could have killed ALOT of people today. There was a girl walking along the sidewalk who is very lucky to be alive, our family is lucky to be alive, and everyone else that could have been around him, but for some reason went another direction, such as us, is lucky to be alive. It was nice to see the many passers by who pulled over to see if he was okay, but part of me thinks that some just wanted to see what idiot was in that car.

I'm also curious as to why

I'm also curious as to why there wasn't a cop car chasing him if he was clocked in at over 100 mph. It seems like it took forever for EMS and JPD to arrive.

After a second look at the photo...

...the "cool" wheels, the red paint job on the car, and the comments above about the speeding that evidently preceeded the crash make me think that the driver was not one of the more conservative, mature, safe drivers in town.

Nevertheless, I hope they are OK. Maybe they will slow down in the future.

People made mistakes, they'll learn from it. If they don't, that's they're own choice and they're own problem. You guys need to mind your own business and shut the f*** up. It's NOT your place to judge others or say s*** about them, when you don't even know them. Nobody's perfect in this world and so are YOU. My nephews are going through hard times right now and all they need is they're family's love and supports. They don't want to hear any negativities coming from people like you. If you guys don't mind me asking, please! take your 2cents opinions somewhere else, because we really don't want to hear it. Thank You :))

Say something AGAIN and we're gonna have a problem TRUST ME!!!!!!...

This is not the Juneau I knew

What? People express condolences and offer prayer and good wishes, but because they point out that the driver was driving way too fast and endangering other they are threatened? I know you're upset and grieving, but threats of violence are not the way to respond.

Madyar!

Of course we do appreciate peoples condolences and they're prayers etc, but don't be coming here saying s*** first, and then say nice things after. Calling my nephews rude, stupid, idiot, and immature, then say hope they'll be ok and they're prayers are with them. Seriously, who does that? Sorry, but if you got something bad to say, come say it to our face or don't comments at all. We're all humans here and we all have feelings. There's how many car accidents here in town we NEVER say or comments anything bad about it, but send our condolences and pray for them. It's what we call "love and supports". IF you can't do that, then please just mind your own business and keep your own opinions to yourself.

Mechanically restrict upper speed limits on vehicles

I'm surprised that among all the options current vehicle packages have, from leather seats to tinted windows, there isn't a choice to have a device installed that prevents extremely high speeds.

Perhaps that Gecko on Hulu would offer massive insurance premium discounts for customers who choose to drive such vehicles.

Engineers and patents are needed.

Mike

PS: Excellent work EMS crew, thank you.

@lole

Not sure what you think your the boss of. As the old saying goes ignorance is bliss. Lucky nobody other than the idiots in the car were injured, as others made comments, innocent people on the road following the speed limit and weather conditions. Could have been way worse, if you think you have the need for speed, go out the road were the risk of killing innocent people are greatly reduced, other wise concede to the fact that you are getting nowhere fast, no pun intended. It is what it is.

I was happy to hear last

I was happy to hear last night that both Silver and Siaosi are going to be ok. The driver is not an idiot - he is a young man. Young men sometimes drive too fast. Yes, he made a mistake. We all make mistakes, especially when we're young. And he's very lucky his mistake didn't cause any loss of life. All the name calling - and the threats - don't help anyone. Juneau - we're better than this.

JNUKara

i agree it is good we didn't loose another young person on our streets.
i do wonder though why this rather large familly never seems to get in trouble or suffer any consequences for thiere actions? they have been rampaging around this town for many years and any time one of them gets called out on it the whole familly comes running with threats and crazyness. just like in the comments above, and nothing ever gets done. i could list many many referances but whats the point. i just hope this isnt one of those cases.

PRAYERS are needed and all

PRAYERS are needed and all the name calling aren't needed here..... Seriously going as low as calling its "pidgen" -wrong!!, or
Lucky nobody other than the idiots in the car.... these are someones LOVED ones that were hurt .. yes luckily Thank GOD no one else were hurt, but they were!!!
jnumom: you were the eyes and ears for us all and yes thankfully you and your family were not injured or harmed, then you went into I was trying to be considerate for the family and then did not consider them.
Kasele01 and Lole = we are sorry for what has happened and people are free to say whatever on here please dont take it personal .... Dont read anymore of this...
the DEPORTATION comment : seriously!!!
I would love to comment on the other's but Im not .. but I would like to comment on Jnukara: you went into you're happy to hear they are ok then went into " they have been rampaging around this town for many years and any time one of them gets called out on it the whole familly comes running with threats and crazyness. just like in the comments " Well let me EDUCATE YOU ALL who think this way.... POLYNESIANS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN RAISED TO RESPECT, OBEY, HONOR, etc.... However when OUR people (children) do wrong, we as a FAMILY address the issues at hand.... like any other young man or woman they test the waters doesn't matter what color they are... they make mistakes!! so to answer your thoughts the family do impose a stance on what the wrong has been done and YES they will stand by when name calling and pure insensitivity is happening ... its human nature!!! yes there are other POLYNESIANS in this town that are running rampid, those are the ones and maybe the ones that ELDER'S of their families aren't here or are a problem themself. Don't be putting down families and the POLYNESIAN culture in its entirety like that... so please before you all go name calling and putting people and down no matter the color - REMEMBER it's someones LOVED one .... feelings are going to get hurt and then we are all behind a monitor!!!!
MAY SILVER AND SIA'OSI RECOVER FROM INJURIES AND LEARN FROM THIS.....

AND TO EMILY RUSSO : YOU POSTED THE NAMES AND THEN WENT ON TO SAY "It was unknown if the family has been contacted." ??????

speed

If the driver really was going 100 miles an hour, he deserves whatever is said about him by others - especially those that saw him in their rear view mirrors!!!!!

Unless he was being chased by another car and being shot at by assault weapons, there is no reason for him to have been driving that fast. NONE.

So, all the angry family members and friends really need to step back, take a deep breath, be GRATEFUL that nobody was killed (especially someone's innocent child in another car or walking down the street) as well as their loved ones, and remember that we all live in this town and have a right to safety.

I don't know these guys and I don't care who they are or where they are from: driving like a maniac on our city streets is stupid and senseless. If my son did it, I would say that about him, too. I would also not be angry that my neighbors said it, either. So, yes, people make mistakes. People also have to be accountable for them. Anyone who feels any differently is irresponsible.

To be charged with assualt does not require you to ever touch them, they merely had to be in fear of harm... Anyone who wanted to could file for assault charges against these posters and Juneau Empire has the evidence in writing... Just sayin...
