Vehicle vandalism is JPD Crime of the Week

The Juneau Police Department Crime of the Week for Jan. 18 is in reference to a reported vandalism to a vehicle.

Sgt. Paul Hatch said in a release that at about 4 p.m. on Dec. 24, a citizen called JPD to report the back window of their vehicle had been shattered while it was parked along Glacier Highway near Mile 16.

A police investigation revealed that the back window was apparently shot out with a BB gun sometime over the prior two days.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is encouraged to log onto the Juneau Crime Line at and report the tip. Tipsters are guaranteed anonymity and can be rewarded.

12-year-old intentionally set brush fire, fire marshal says

A 12-year-old boy intentionally set a brush fire in the Mendenhall Valley on Wednesday, according to a statement from Capital City Fire/Rescue.
