I'm sorry, but after all that the McGraw company has put elementary students through in Juneau/Douglas this past school year, is it really necessary to have the students do the heavy lifting? Why isn't the company helping since they are the ones that couldn't get the job done on time?
I was there helping on Friday and it was an amazing morning. Staff, parents, JSD maintenance and students all working together to move classroom supplies into new rooms. JSD maintenance and janitorial staff did all the 'heavy lifting'. Students were moving because the job was completed on time.
"Phase One will occur during the summer of 2012 and will encompass the west end (both floors) of the building. This phase would be complete and some rooms will be ready for occupancy in the fall."
The project went out to bid twice. The second bid had the phase one done in January. They are on schedule. Maybe next fall things will be a different story when the entire building is supposed to be finished.
Gastineau School was a completely different story. Not entirely impressed with the operation at the cost of our children's education and safety. As long as the parents of Auke Bay are happy to send their kids to school to move boxes instead of learn, I guess that's their choice.
