Vehicle fire causes $2,500 in damage

Firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire in the 3200 block of Tongass Boulevard at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Capital City Fire/Rescue officials said at first there was concern about the possibility of the fire spreading due to its proximity to a residential structure and other vehicles, but they conducted a “quick attack” and knocked down the flames.

Mechanical failure was the cause of the fire, which was unintentional, officials said. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo sustained approximately $2,500 in damage, according to CCFR.
