Police calls for Monday, Feb. 4, 2013

Disturbance

• At 5:26 a.m. on Sunday, JPD assisted another agency with a disturbance on the 1000 block of Salmon Creek Lane.

Driving while intoxicated

• At 1:51 a.m. on Sunday, 25-year-old Andrew Curtin was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Highland Drive. He was taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.

Traffic stop

• At 2:55 a.m. on Sunday, JPD impounded a black 2007 Chrysler on Egan Drive. Alcohol was involved.

Vandalism

• At 11:22 p.m. on Saturday, the Juneau Police Department arrested 32-year-old Nissan Babou Plotnick for assault and criminal mischief on the 100 block of Main Street. He was taken to LCCC. Alcohol was involved.

• At 11:22 p.m. on Saturday, 20-year-old Kurtis Michael Detemple was arrested for assault and criminal trespass on the 100 block of Main Street. He was taken to LCCC. Alcohol was involved.

This Day in Juneau History: Jan. 19, 1987

On Jan. 19, 1987, with revenues half of what they were the year before and an estimated budget deficit ranging from $700-$900 million, the 15th Alaska Legislature began working on the state’s enormous budget deficit. Everyone was present for the Legislature’s first day except for Sen. Frank Ferguson, D-Kotzebue, who resigned shortly after his election because of health problems. Taking his place was Kotzebue businessman and Native leader Willie Hensley, whom Gov. Steve Cowper appointed for the position until the 1988 elections.
