Man sentenced for possessing methamphetamine

A man was sentenced to four years in jail, with two years suspended, for possessing methamphetamine.

Juneau Superior Court Judge Louis Menendez imposed the sentence for Kevin J. Belcourt, 31, on Thursday. Belcourt was also required to be placed on probation for four years after his release.

In September, Belcourt was indicted on one count of third-degree drug miscount for possessing methamphetamine on Aug. 3, 2012, with intent to deliver — a class “B” felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge, a class “C” felony which carries a maximum possible penalty of up to five years in prison.

He was allowed to delay reporting to Lemon Creek Correctional Center until Feb. 7 since his father is ill.
