A fundraiser will be held in Juneau on Friday for the family of Mackenzie H. Howard, a 13-year-old girl who was killed in Kake last week.
The Indian Taco Fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, at the Salvation Army, 439 W. Willoughby Ave.
Indian tacos will be going for $8, and that includes a drink. Fry bread will also be sold for $2, or $20 per dozen.
All proceeds from the event will be deposited into the Wells Fargo checking account that has been set up on behalf of the Howard family, according to lead organizer of the fundraiser, Jessie Lee, 28.
Lee said she met the Howard family when she worked in Kake in the early 2000s and has kept in touch with them since moving back to Juneau in 2005.
“I figured it’s the least I could do,” she said by phone.
Howard was found dead in a Kake church last Tuesday, and law enforcement are still investigating her death, which they believe to be a homicide. No arrests have been made yet in the case.

Donations to the family can also be made directly at Wells Fargo into Account #5274579043.
