Man accused of shooting at vehicle indicted for assault, criminal mischief

Grand jury indicts three in all on Friday

The 23-year-old man accused of shooting at a vehicle that was being on towed on Egan Drive has been indicted on felony charges.

Darshan S. Dogra was charged with two counts of felony assault for recklessly placing the driver of the tow truck and passenger in fear of injury during the Feb. 1 incident. He is also facing one count of criminal mischief for damaging the car he is accused of shooting.

Those are all class “C” felonies that can be punishable by up to five years in jail.

Prosecutors said Dogra stopped his vehicle in front of the tow truck near the Sunny Point Overpass, got out of his vehicle and fired a handgun at the vehicle, for no apparent reason.

Police arrested him several hours later at a room in the Extended Stay Hotel near the airport.

He is being held at Lemon Creek Correctional Center in lieu of $20,000 bond. A bail hearing is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Two other people were indicted by a grand jury on Friday.

• Mason T. Baker, 21, was indicted on one count of second-degree theft for taking property belonging to Sequence, a skateboard and snowboard shop in the Mendenhall Mall, on Jan. 4. The indictment alleges the property was worth between $50 and $500, and that Baker has been convicted and sentenced on two or more occasions for similar offenses in the past five years. Second-degree theft is a class “C” felony punishable by up to five years in jail.

• Patrick W. Jaynes, 43, was indicted on two counts of fourth-degree drug misconduct for possessing methamphetamine and oxycodone on Sept. 28. Those are also class “C” felonies.

Jaynes is being held at LCCC in lieu of a $20,000 cash performance bond.

Indictments are formal accusations of illegal activity, and they are not indicative of guilt. The District Attorney’s Office in Juneau presents cases to the grand jury each Friday.
