.223 day of "resistance", after Sandy Hook...

Is just kind of sick---Just like AR-15 sales going through the roof after those kids got killed by that nutcase. I'll never be able to pick one of those up without thinking about that.

I understand about 2nd Amendment, even though existing laws don't come close to giving us parity with the military. It still grinds my arse that many of the "gun lobby" have voted consistently to give the military and the government the powers it has over our lives, and voted consistently to send our kids overseas on any and every military adventure that seems to come up. We've fought wars all over the planet since World War II---Korea, Vietnam, a bunch of little dirty and mostly secret wars in Central and South America, and Iraq, Kosovo, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq again, and of course our continuing brush-fire wars all over the middle east and Africa, fighting the "Arab Spring" while we give lip-service supporting it---What exactly has it gotten us other than a wrung-out economy where our only meaningful national product is more guns? I can get my head around soldiers fighting to defend our freedoms, but liberty at the point of a gun is something else altogether.

Sure, many say we won the Cold War---Then why are we still fighting? Oh yeah, there's the war on drugs, terror, each other...We're as addicted to enemies as we are to being heavily armed, both personally and nationally.

Someone else is picking up the little pieces, and we're still being played off against each other, while our real value as the most powerful ELECTORATE on the planet is being traded away.

Our right to own weapons isn't going to amount to ANYTHING while we're busy fighting each other.

Regardless of how insensitive

Regardless of how insensitive as these people are they are practicing they're right to protest. Sadly they missed the memo, no one is trying to take their guns away. It is interesting the state of fear these people live under. Kind of like mindless puppets. But seriously, I applaud them protesting in a safe organized way.

Yeah, there is that

The right to peaceably assemble---Important, and they pulled it off responsibly.

What's next, the 3/08 day of remembrance?

No, I know I shouldn't get down on these guys---I'm just personally put off by the theme (.223, not necessarily the right to bear arms).

"Two Hundred Twenty-Three Thousandths Of A Day of Resistance"?

I get it that they're trying to do word play on a caliber of weapon, but it doesn't sound quite so impressive when you read it literally-it would come out to "Slightly Less Than Six Hours Of Resistance".

Which could just mean they went home sick after coffee break and cleaned their guns or something.

Worth remembering

February 22nd was the birthday of Sandy Hook Elementary victim Charlotte Bacon. While a bunch of gun enthusiasts got to walk around with their firearms on February 23rd, Charlotte got to never reach seven years of age.

Sorry Noroad

But you would call me a liberal (I'm not, I'm a centrist), and I own guns. I like shooting guns. And you would be making the last serious mistake of your life breaking into my house.

My brother is a self-admitted conservative (I guess he COULD be worse things) and he's a serious gun nut. But he's entirely in favor of requiring gun ownership licensing and registration of all guns.

The narrative you're being fed from FoxNews and the NRA doesn't match reality.

The other reality is that less than 50 voters (a number of them were very bored kids) came out as die-hard gun nuts in Juneau. Not the 300-400 that were claimed. Our elected officials should take notice - there are more of us sane voters than them.

They are still going with the "cold dead hands" blurb. What forward thinkers. NRA kills kids would be more apt.

Is your pro argument for more erosion of the second amendment based on the fact that your brother has guns and thinks it’s a good idea? …OK, Here is my retort….my uncle has guns and thinks its a bad idea.

Why do we need the right to

Why do we need the right to bare arms?

To ensure we can do this when and if the time comes:

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security”…The Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776.

AND REMEMBER liberals..that the Despot that needs to be overthrown might be a conservative, evangelical, pro-life, racist, Despot, who is crushing out social liberalism. How are you going to fight back without guns? With words?... Good Luck.

Reality is...

...gray.

As far as your hypothetical despot, I think I'll use my vote against him rather than my guns. And if our military decides to violate their oath to defend the constitution and back him, then my gun won't do me a lot of good.

BTW, I think the general rule is that you may bare no more than two arms at any given time, though there may be exceptions.

Lat,
You say that your guns wouldn’t do any good against the military…I think you vastly underestimate the efficiency of a highly motivated, armed gorilla group with local knowledge. Remember..the military doesn’t just have to take an area they also have to keep it.

Keep in mind,

obama was on the board of the "Joyce Foundation" look them up and educate yourselves on what his real position is. ALSO, look up his voting record and what he has uttered publicly. THEN feel free to comment, but at the very least, know what you are commenting about! Do the same thing for Feinstein. When one mis-speaks, one looses credibility.

So what youre saying is that you need an AR-15 to protect you and your family against the government? Just make sure you wear a tin foil hat, i hear it keeps the government from reading our thoughts.

Also, the british are coming!!!!!

Rally

I enjoyed myself while expressing my right to bear arms. I walked with this group, listened to their words, and shared my common beliefs with like minded individuals. While on our last leg of the walk I had an older gentleman walk next to me who clearly did not agree with our stance. He asked me a few questions, I answered him the best I could and he had the courage and the balls to tell me to my face that he thought we were wrong and that we are the problem. He seriously was trying to get me riled up. It didn't work, I respected his opinion and did not argue with him. I mention this because again I say I respect him enough for having the courtesy to come tell me his thoughts face to face instead of hiding behind his computer screen bashing my beliefs. Thanks for being honest older person, I wish i gotten your name because even though we disagree I want you to know I still respect your opinion. Especially since you had the courage to tell me in person.

Tunisia

Tunisia has the lowest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world. They overthrew their dictator.

Egypt is 115th in rates of civilian gun ownership. Dictator also gone.

Civilian gun ownership has NOTHING to do with freedom and dictatorship.

A high civilian gun ownership rate is not the cause of gun violence. Violent media is not the cause of gun violence. Lack of education, and economic prosperity also are not the the cause of gun violence.

What is it about Americans that we pick up our guns and shoot each other? Is it simply because we can?

Alaska just aint France

Sorry to be the (gun) bearer of bad news to the small band of castaway Alaskan progressives taking comfort from one another on this blog site, but you are living in the great redneck State of Alaska - followed by Texas in greatness.

As some of the leftist states are making gun ownership difficult and in the process violating the 2'nd Amendment - that isn’t ever going to happen here in Alaska. So just get used to it. If it makes you nervous knowing that many of your neighbors are armed with .223 assault weapons then consider moving to New York City where Bloomberg will protect you.

For the uninformed castaway Alaskan progressives, here is some information that should be really-really scary - most of your neighbors have even larger (military caliber) weapons - like the .375 .308 .45 and the monster .50 calibers.

And finally the news that should send the pansies fleeing to France - Any 18 year-old, non-felon, can carry a concealed gun in Alaska without a government permit, without a government license, without any government training, and without government permission slips.

You progressives should be really terrified by the number of people actually carrying concealed weapons. Start carefully observing people in public and you'll soon notice the guns everywhere. That should be enough to get those bags packed for France.

I am glad they got to use

I am glad they got to use their right to protest, walk in the rain, and stand in front of empty buildings. It gave them something to do on a Saturday.
I agree with their message and I stand by my rights to own firearms; however this was a stupid "protest".

You can't handle the truth

You all sleep comfortably at night because we are here. Every hour of every day we are here. Just a few miles separate our freedom our democracy from the British monarchist puppets. The kings minions years ago tested a blockade of Ak by holding our ferries hostage. We are just an edict away from 20,000 screaming Canadians storming over the ice fields. What then my friends? You think Obama is going to stop them? Obamacare is the canadianization of America? Not to worry. My .223 and stock of ammo will keep us safe.

Not on my watch.

Whitehorse...it's obvious

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Come on does no one else see this? A pale horse???? Whitehorse???

Not on my watch.

When has the regular citizen

When has the regular citizen had to take up arms to protect your rights lately? I sleep at night thanks to the police force and military that would squash any threat.

I sleep good at night but its not because of you. And this coming from a man that owns guns.

You want me to feel safe when massacres like sandy happen with guns in homes not properly stored under lock and key? Sorry, those trajetys happen with your guns, not the guns that actually protect us.

This isn't about gun rights

The irony here is that a rally like this would be completely supported by President Obama and his beautiful, intelligent wife First Lady Michelle Obama.

An apt analogy would be, "cover me, 2nd Amendment, while I clandestinely work to unravel a civilization that is headed toward reason, empathy, and science-based public education."

That's my interpretation.

Mike
