Man arraigned for sex abuse of a minor

Delancey Youngblut, 37, appears in Juneau Superior Court on Tuesday. Youngblut was indicted on two counts of sex abuse of a minor in the second degree for allegedly having sexual contact with a minor under 16 years old.

A 37-year-old man Tuesday pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Delancey L. Youngblut entered his pleas through his attorney, Assistant Public Defender Grace Lee, during his arraignment in Juneau Superior Court before Judge Philip Pallenberg. He is slated to stand trial in May.

Prosecutors accused Youngblut of having sexual contact with a minor under 16 years of age in Juneau on July 7, according to charging documents. The documents indicate he knew the alleged victim.

He was indicted by a grand jury in Juneau on Feb. 1, and he was picked up in Washington state on Feb. 14, District Attorney David Brower said. Brower said Youngblut waived his right to an extradition hearing and was transported to Juneau. He is currently being held in custody at Lemon Creek Correctional Center on $20,000 bail, $15,000 of which is a cash performance bond and $5,000 appearance bond.

Second-degree sexual abuse of a minor is a class ‘B’ felony that can carry up to 99 years in prison. If convicted, and if he does not have any prior felony convictions, Youngblut would likely be facing a presumptive sentencing range of five to 15 years in jail.
