2 sustain injuries in Wednesday crash

A vehicle accident at the intersection of Mendenhall Loop Road and Stephen Richards Memorial Drive sent two people to Bartlett Regional Hospital Wednesday night with non-life threatening injuries. Police received reports of the crash at about 8:45 p.m. and found two vehicles blocked the southbound lanes of the intersection.

Sgt. Brian Dallas wrote in a release that a 2007 Honda Pilot driven by an 18-year-old Juneau resident Michaela Schlechter failed to yield while turning left from Loop Road onto Memorial Drive.

The car turned out in front of a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 20-year-old woman, who police did not identify.

Schlechter and a passenger from the Jetta were taken to BRH by private vehicles.

Schlechter was cited for failing to yield before turning left. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The accident closed some traffic in the area for about 40 minutes.
