The City and Borough of Juneau Water Utility will be performing annual cleaning and exercising of the water valves throughout the borough, beginning next Tuesday and continuing through late June.
The utility’s work may cause water discoloration or service disruptions, which were characterized as “minor” in a public notice.
Work will start downtown and continue to the area near Aurora Harbor known as the Highlands, before crossing the Gastineau Channel to Douglas Island. Once work is completed in Douglas, crews will return to Juneau, working northward from the Highlands to the Mendenhall Valley, and ending in the Tee Harbor area.
During the first two weeks, anticipated work hours will begin at 5:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. For all other areas, the anticipated work hours will be between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The utility is advising customers that if they experience a discoloration in their water, they can clear the discoloration by running cold water after work crews leave the area. It also asks that Juneau residents be alert of any crews working along local roads.
