A pod of nearly a dozen orca whales swim in Gastineau Channel on Thursday evening.
Are you sure it's not because Obama wants to take away your guns?
Hooligans are on the move, which attracks seals, which attracks Orcas, which attracks cameras.
How cool! Thanks for the pictures. Does this happen very often?
Don't quite get the connection between Obama, guns and Killer whales, but nevertheless, it is his fault and will continue to be his fault, long after he is gone!
It is actually pretty rare -- maybe once or twice a year.
They're hunting for Parnell and 11 senators. Alaska's sending them a sign.
Small pod, 8 or less are usually the marine mammal eaters, large pods, a dozen or more, kiss the salmon good by. At least that's what the biologists tell us.
Almost twelve years ago my son and his new bride had a 3-hour wedding reception cruise out of Juneau. About an hour into the cruise we came to a halt when a large pod of more than a dozen Orchas came near the small ship. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. Everyone talked about how rare it was for this to happen, so we all felt fortunate to have been there.
In the second photo, see the silhouette of the humpback whale on the side of the JACC? (Juneau Arts and Culture Center).
Another wonderful Michael Penn photo!
