Young to visit Southeast Alaska this week

Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, the state’s lone member of the United States House of Representatives, will be spending much of his Easter workweek recess in Southeast Alaska, according to his public schedule.

Young is scheduled to speak at the dedication ceremony for the new ship assembly hall at the Ketchikan Shipyard at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, is also scheduled to speak.

Two other Ketchikan events — a public meeting at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly Chambers at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and an address to the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce at noon Wednesday – are also scheduled.

Young will be in Juneau Thursday, March 28 to participate in Gov. Sean Parnell’s planned “Choose Respect” rally at noon. The march will start at the Alaska State Capitol.

Parnell’s “Choose Respect” initiative aims to reduce Alaska’s high rates of sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Congress’ two-week recess covers the religious holidays of Easter and Passover. The legislative body is set to reconvene the week of April 7.
