Former chief justice to host Monday panel on recidivism

Former Alaska Supreme Court Chief Justice Walter Carpeneti will be hosting a panel and public discussion on recidivism and how Juneau can help ex-offenders transition from prison to productive members of the community.

The panel will be held at 7 p.m. Monday April 22 at the Northern Light United Church, 400 W. 11th St. It is sponsored by the church and Juneau People for Peace and Justice.

Panelists include Juneau District Court Judge Keith Levy, Gastineau Halfway House Client Services Director Michele Federico and Employment Service Manager for the state of Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development Michael Hutcherson.

Carpeneti was appointed to the Alaska Supreme Court in 1998 and served as chief justice from 2009 until his retirement in 2012.
