JPD investigates death in Auke Rec area

Juneau Police Department responded to Glacier Highway at the Auke Recreation Area Saturday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. to find a 34-year-old Juneau resident with a gunshot wound to his head.

The man was discovered parked in a vehicle in a pullout along the highway by Capital City Fire and Rescue while responding to a grass fire in the area. He was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

JPD reported the gunshot wound appeared to be self-inflicted and foul play is not suspected. Next of kin have been notified but no name was released as of press time.
