Police say a man found sleeping in the Court Plaza Building was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of burglary and criminal mischief.
Juneau police responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress at the plaza, 240 Main Street, at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from Sgt. Chris Gifford.
Gifford said responding officers discovered a glass door had been shattered. The building security officer (who had called 911) reviewed surveillance video footage of the area which showed a person entering the building, but no one exiting.
Police officers entered the building and found the man sleeping in the hallway, they said. Police identified him as 36-year-old Nicholas Riethmann, a French citizen.
Riethmann was arrested on one count of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree criminal mischief, both felony offenses. He was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and is being held without bail, the release states.
Police said additional investigation showed a water fountain was damaged inside the building, but no other damage was reported. Alcohol was a factor in the incident, they said.
