Grand jury indicts 3

A Juneau grand jury handed up three indictments on Friday.

Nicholas C. Degtoff, 51, was indicted on one count of third-degree assault and one count of second-degree weapons misconduct.

The indictment alleges he recklessly placed a woman in fear of imminent serious physical injury with a rifle on April 19 in Haines and that he did knowingly discharge a firearm at or in the direction of a dwelling.

Third-degree assault is a class ‘C’ felony that can be punishable by up to five years in prison, and second-degree weapons misconduct is a class ‘B’ felony that can carry up to 10 years.

Frank G. Brown, 50, and Alexey D. Stepetin, 33, were both indicted on one count of failure to register as a sex offender in the first degree. That’s a class ‘C’ felony.

All three defendants are scheduled to be arraigned in Juneau Superior Court on Monday.

Indictments are formal accusations of illegal activity, and they are not indicative of guilt. The District Attorney’s Office in Juneau presents cases to the grand jury each Friday.
