Grand jury hands up 4 indictments

A Juneau grand jury issued four indictments on Friday.

• Martin C. Goldberg and Drew D. Baltzell, both 19, were each indicted on one count of first-degree vehicle theft for allegedly stealing a vehicle on March 10 in Haines.

That’s a class ‘C’ felony that can be punishable by up to five years in prison.

• Hugo A. Vanegas, 32, was indicted on one count of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault in connection to an assault on April 28 in Juneau.

The former offense is a class ‘B’ punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and the latter offense is a class ‘C’ felony.

• Judah A. Aldrighette, 21, was indicted on one count of failure to stop at direction of peace office in the first degree. That’s a class ‘C’ felony.

Police said in an earlier release that Aldrighette blew through a stop sign on May 6 and sped off toward Egan Drive, leading police in pursuit. When police caught up to him a few minutes later, they discovered he was involved in a hit-and-run earlier that morning, according to police.

He is facing a misdemeanor charge in connection to the hit-and-run, according to court documents.

• Frank H. Miller, 49, was indicted on one count of felony driving while under the influence. That’s a ‘C’ felony.

The indictment alleges he drove drunk in Juneau on May 8 while having two or more prior convictions within the past 10 years.

Indictments are formal accusations of illegal activity, and they are not indicative of guilt. The District Attorney’s Office in Juneau presents cases to the grand jury each Friday.
