At noon today, the Docks and Harbors board will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Auke Bay Harbor office marking the completion of the first phase of the Statter Harbor Master Plan.
“It’s just a great opportunity to thank those involved in the project,” said Docks and Harbors Port Director Carl Uchytil, “that includes the designers, contractors and Docks and Harbors employees who had to juggle numerous interruptions while the project was undergoing construction.”
Along with repairs to existing floats, the project provided 32- and 42-foot moorage slips for 62 former Dehart’s harbor patrons and an added eight from a Statter Harbor waitlist.
Phase two will provide a new launch ramp facility and associated trailer park to begin construction. Phase two would begin around April 2014.
The ceremony coincides with the Docks and Harbors annual customer appreciation day. To celebrate, staff members will provide hot dogs and drinks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Along with limited space at the Auke Bay Harbor lot, there will be additional parking at the University of Alaska Southeast recreation center with a shuttle service.
