Police & Fire Calls for May 19, 2013

Assault

• At 11:25 p.m. Thursday, the Juneau Police Department responded to an assault in the 200 block of Front Street and assisted Probations with a remand. Alcohol was involved.

• At 7:22 p.m. Friday, JPD investigated a reported assault in the 300 block of Franklin Street.

Driving without a valid license

• At 5:25 p.m. Thursday, Juan Antonio Quintanilla, 25, was cited and released for driving without a valid license during a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Ninth Street. His vehicle was impounded.

• At 9:59 p.m. Thursday, Charles Watkins, 32, was cited and released for driving without a valid license during a traffic stop in the 3300 block of Egan Drive. His vehicle was impounded.

• At 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Kelly Reyes, 28, was cited and released for driving without a valid license during a traffic stop in the 100 block of Egan Drive. Her vehicle was impounded.

• At 12:47 a.m. Saturday, Jacob Boon, 26, was cited for driving without a valid license during a traffic stop in the 3300 block of Egan Drive. His vehicle was impounded.

Drunken driving

• At 3:24 a.m. Saturday, Jeanine Ward, 22, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment in the 9200 block of Sharon Street. She was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center, and her vehicle was impounded.

Harassment

• At 7:01 a.m. Saturday, JPD responded to a report of harassment in the 700 block of Willoughby Avenue. Alcohol was involved.

Liquor violation

• At 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Roseanna Katheryn Nicklie, 29, was arrested for drunken person on a licensed premises and resisting or interfering with an arrest in the 200 block of Front Street. She was taken to LCCC.

• At 2:29 a.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old girl was cited and released for minor on licensed premise and minor consuming in the 200 block of Front Street.

Theft

• At 12:07 p.m. Thursday, JPD investigated a report of stolen property in the 1600 block of Glacier Avenue.

• At 2:13 p.m. Thursday, a 26-year-old man reported items stolen from his vehicle on Pioneer Avenue. Investigation continues.

• At 4:28 p.m. Thursday, JPD investigated a report of a stolen cell phone on Village Street.

• At 12:22 p.m. Friday, a 41-year-old man reported a 36-year-old woman stole his cell phone in the 8700 block of Glacier Highway.

• At 3:36 p.m. Friday, JPD investigated a report of a theft in the Juneau area.

• At 7:01 p.m. Friday, a 46-year-old man reported the theft of a bag worth $70 and contents valued at $50 in the 100 block of Franklin Street.

Trespass

• At 3:04 p.m. Thursday, JPD investigated a report of trespass in the 200 block of Marine Way.

Vandalism

• At 8:06 a.m. Friday, JPD investigated a report of a building in the 3100 block of Riverside Drive being egged sometime during the night.

• At 8:33 a.m. Saturday, a 31-year-old woman reported vandalism that occurred in the 30000 block of Glacier Highway.

Wildlife violation

• On Thursday, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Juneau cited James R. Petz, 47, of Dalles, Ore., for failing to obtain a RB089 brown bear registration permit prior to hunting and taking a brown bear in GMU-4. Fine is $160.

On Jan. 22, 1987, Gov. Steve Cowper prepared to discuss the final part of his fiscal plan: budget cuts. The total amount suggested to be cut by his temporary cabinet was $300 million, which tore funding from a variety of different programs. However, although what propositions Cowper accepted were still a mystery, Press Secretary David Ramseur confirmed that the cuts he did accept totaled at about $200 million. Cowper was to give a speech directly to the Alaska Legislature discussing the specifics of his recommended cuts.

Man caught with 3 pounds of meth on Southeast Alaska-bound ferry sentenced to 20 months

A 21-year-old man who was caught transporting three pounds of methamphetamine — reportedly the largest seizure in Southeast Alaska in at least 10 years— on the ferry between Bellingham and Ketchikan last May was “a patsy, plan and simple,” his defense attorney argued.
