Drug task force seizes heroin, marijuana in Juneau

Authorities say the Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs task force seized heroin, marijuana and hashish during drug investigations in Juneau on Thursday and Friday.

Alaska State Troopers said in an online dispatch that SEACAD and U.S. Postal Inspectors contacted 54-year-old Juneau resident Daniel Meschonnic at about 9:10 p.m. Friday and seized two ounces of black tar heroin.

Meschonnic was arrested on a felony drug charge and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center, the dispatch states.

On Thursday, SEACAD seized approximately half a pound of marijuana and approximately eight grams of hashish destined for Haines, they said.

A suspect was identified, but he or she was not charged with a crime and a name was not released, according to the dispatch. Troopers recommended the suspect be charged with two felonies for attempted misconduct involving controlled substances, and forwarded the case to the Juneau District Attorney’s Office for review.

SEACAD is under the umbrella of the Alaska Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Investigation, a division of the Alaska State Troopers.
