Police seek info on Wednesday night vehicle theft

Police are seeking information from the public regarding a vehicle theft that was reported Wednesday night around 8 p.m.

The Juneau Police Department received a report that a 1998 Ford Explorer had been stolen from the area of Dimond Park in the Mendenhall Valley, according to an information release from Sgt. Dominic Branson.

At about 9:08 p.m., a police officer spotted a vehicle matching its description in the Lemon Creek area, but the officer was unable to determine if it was the stolen vehicle and lost sight of it, the release states.

The vehicle was then located minutes later parked on Jenkins Drive, and three people were seen running for the area, police said. The vehicle was examined for evidence, then returned to its owner.

Anyone with information regarding the theft is encouraged to contact JPD at 500-0600.
