12 businesses affected by power outage Thursday

Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to a report of an explosion on Industrial Boulevard around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, but it ended up just being an electrical issue.

A truck dumping material in the area accidentally backed into a power line, which blew a fuse, caused a power outage and sparked a small pole fire, according to Alaska Electric Light & Power Company spokeswoman Debbie Driscoll.

Driscoll said 12 commercial customers briefly lost power, and it was turned back on within the hour.
