Applications to fill three city Assembly and two school board seats will open at 8 a.m. Friday, according to a city news release. Voters will elect these representatives in the Oct. 1 municipal elections.
An areawide Assembly member, a District 1 Assembly member and a District 2 Assembly member, along with two school board members, will be elected. Each position carries a three-year term.
Candidates must be qualified voters in Juneau; qualified to vote in state elections; a resident of the municipality for at least 30 days by Oct. 1; registered to vote in state elections at an address within the municipality for at least 30 days by Oct. 1; and not disqualified under Article V of the Alaska Constitution, the release stated. Assembly hopefuls must also have been a resident of Juneau for at least one year by Oct. 1. Assembly District 1 and District 2 candidates must live in the district at the time of election.
Necessary paperwork for candidacy is available in the Municipal Clerk’s office in City Hall and online at juneau.org/clerk/elections. Filing closes at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 12.
