For Juneau, the ferry is a constant, something that’s always there to filter locals and visitors in and out of our town. On Saturday, the city is celebrating the Alaska Marine Highway Service’s 50th year of being there with a day of hotdogs and art.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Auke Bay Ferry Terminal. Free activities and hotdogs will keep kids occupied, according to an Southeast Conference news release. Adults can enjoy food vendors, music and art from the Canvas, and can catch a preview of part two of 360 North’s documentary on the ferry system.

“This celebration is a way for the Juneau community to say thank you to this unique service that is so much a part of life in Southeast,” Southeast Conference Executive Director Shelley Wright said in the release. “Whether you moved here on the ferry or worked for the ferry system, many have fond memories of travels, unique stories to tell and a reason to celebrate.”

Alongside Southeast Conference, Wells Fargo Bank, Lynden Transport, NC Machinery, the Juneau Chamber of Commerce and the Juneau Economic Development Council are the event’s sponsors.
