Discard hazardous waste safely this weekend

The city will collect hazardous waste this weekend for safe disposal.

A hazardous waste event will take place Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 5436 Commercial Blvd. Residents can dump items like antifreeze, car batteries, fluorescent bulbs, transmission fluid and pesticide. A full list can be found online at juneau.org/pubworks/hazardwaste.php.

Residents should keep the waste in its original containers, or label it as best they can. Disposable containers are preferred.

Unacceptable waste includes blasting caps and gunpowder, biological or radioactive waste and contaminated soil or wood, among other things.

Businesses can discard their waste Monday, by appointment only. The deadline for business registration was Tuesday, Sept. 10.

The next hazardous waste event will be Nov. 24 and 25.
