No injuries reported in shooting at Churchill Trailer Park

Police ID local woman as a person of interest, arrest her on unrelated charges

Police say no one was injured in a reported shooting at the Churchill Trailer Park on Saturday morning, although one neighboring trailer was struck by a bullet.

Police said in a release they responded to a report of the shooting at the Lemon Creek area park in the 5900 block of Churchill Way at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

An investigation revealed that three shots had been fired from inside a trailer, and a neighboring trailer was struck by a small caliber bullet, police spokesman Lt. David Campbell said in the release. The person whose trailer was shot immediately reported it to police.

The release states that police identified a 35-year-old local woman, Corena Willard, as a person of interest in the case. She was arrested on unrelated charges: Police said she had a $250 Juneau Police Department warrant out for her arrest. The warrant alleges she failed to appear in court for an arraignment relating to a larceny, police said.

She was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and lodged on the warrant.

Police said they obtained a search warrant to search the trailer where the shooting took place and seized three firearms, as well as multiple tools that had previously been reported as stolen.

Police said “consumption of illegal controlled substances” appears to be a contributing factor in the shooting. The police investigation is still ongoing.
