Troopers use force to arrest 19-year-old on outstanding warrant

A “physical struggle” ensued between a 19-year-old man and Juneau Alaska State Troopers as they tried to arrest him on an outstanding warrant at his home Monday, according to troopers.

Troopers said in an online dispatch that Dylan J. Eason attempted to flee on foot from two uniformed troopers who went to his residence in the 17000 block of Point Lena Loop Road to serve the warrant around 9 a.m. Monday.

The officers apprehended Eason immediately using “hard hand techniques and the threat (of) a Taser,” troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said in an email exchange Tuesday. Hard hand technique means grabbing a person by the waist and pulling him or her to the ground, Peters said.

Eason was charged with two counts of resisting arrest and one count of fourth-degree assault for the incident, and he was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center, the dispatch stated. Those are misdemeanor offenses that can be punishable by up to a year in prison.

Troopers said the $10,000 warrant out for Eason’s arrest charged him with failing to appear in court to answer to the felony charge of third-degree assault, as well as the misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief and violating conditions of release.

The assault and criminal mischief charge stem from the same incident that took place May 9 of this year, according to Juneau Superior Court documents. A woman had reported Eason kicked out the windshield of a vehicle and used a shovel to smash out the driver’s side window while she was still in the car, according to a Juneau Police Department citation issued May 10. A Juneau grand jury indicted him the following week for placing the woman in fear of physical injury.

Court records show Eason is also facing felony charges — theft and fraudulent use of a stolen access device — in another case filed in July of this year. He was arraigned on that matter in Juneau Superior Court on Tuesday.
