A sign at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center announces the closure of the center Tuesday until Congress restores funding.
This is the best it's looked in years
They were pretty much shut down anyway after the visitor season ended.
Closed for the season!
The cruises are done so does it need to be open? If you wanted to visit but can't, blame it on our entirely ineffective President (and that's phrasing it politely).
It amazes me that after all the talk of how poorly managed social security has been and how it will be insolvent in the next few years that the voters of this country would choose to turn over their Health Care to the very same entity that cant mange social security.
The hippies in this country must be absolutely terrified to be responsible for any part of their own lives…
And the labels..pretty sure the "hippies" don't have a thing to worry about since ya'll have been so delusional and fed (literally) by the government..
Maybe it's the gmo's in ya, shake it off...
Would love to know how knowledgeable the general public is about Obamacare. A lot of comments lend me to believe they don't understand exactly what it is and is not. Of course any spending on educating the public is cast as wasted "advertising" by the right...
Government shutdowns do not save money, they cost us. Which will cost us more, Obamacare or a few more % points on all that money we borrow due to a reduced credit rating cause they blackmailed using the debt ceiling? Which is more damaging to our economy, Obamacare or the uncertainty of no federal budget beyond a 6 week window? Assuming the republicans don't cut out just the funding mechanisms of Obamacare (mandate & device tax) its supposed to pay for itself.
31 cents of every dollar Washington spent in 2012 was borrowed, resulting in a $1.1 trillion deficit.
45 percent, or almost half of all spending ,went toward paying for Social Security and health care entitlements (primarily Medicare and Medicaid). In 2002, that was only 25 percent.
**Social Security is the largest federal spending program and has held this position since surpassing defense in 1993.
Obamacare will add $1.8 trillion to federal health care spending by 2023. By 2015, health care spending will overtake Social Security as the largest budget item,
So again, how does a costly government shutdown, hurting our credit, and taking away Obamacare funding mechanisms improve our situation?
I'll believe republicans are serious about budget reduction when they start proposing politically viable solutions. Wasting 50+ million dollars in congressional time on Obamacare repeals which they have been told again and again are non-starters does not make me think they are concerned about wasting our money and the budget defecit as much as looking credible to their voting base.
Any legislation republicans propose to change Obamacare needs to get rid of everything, the positive aspects too, because keeping the goods and ditching the funding is pandering and a budget buster.
It's odd the sign didn't say the office would open when Obama puts on his big boy pants and excepts the fact that the House holds the purse strings.
Do you really care? As long as the sign says CLOSED its a good thing.
Please elucidate. Exactly how does it cost me money to close that visitors center?
type it in google, endless articles backing that up, its commonly accepted.
It's kind of like the dollar.... Commonly accepted but not worth what it used to be.....
In a surprise development, General Clapper of the NSA Reports that seventy percent of NSA's employee's are on furlough....
Tell You what, at this point I'd like to offer a 'deal' to the liberals out there:
How about we agree to keep Obama Care and you agree to defund NSA and abolish the 'patriot act'?
Don't laugh.... This is sellable.... It gives both sides something they want and it might even reduce the budget a little.
