Police investigate death on man found on Egan Drive sidewalk

Juneau police officers and detectives stand next to a body found on the sidewalk on Egan Drive across from Centennial Hall just after 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Juneau police are investigating the death of a man who was found on the sidewalk on Egan Drive between the U.S. Coast Guard Station Juneau and Centennial Hall shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

In phone interviews around 9 a.m., spokespeople for the Coast Guard said they were not aware of the situation.

Capital City Fire and Rescue responded and found 52-year-old Juneau resident Peter Karl John Jr. was recently deceased.

One lane of Egan Drive was closed during part of the investigation. Foul play is not suspected at this point. The state Medical Examiner will be conducting an autopsy to assist in determining the cause of John’s death.
