Pickup truck strikes, injures man

A pedestrian was seriously injured shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday after he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Mendenhall Loop Road and Back Loop Road.

 

Police said a 25-year-old Juneau resident was hit by the 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck as he crossed Mendenhall Loop Road. He was taken was to Bartlett Regional Hospital “for treatment of apparently life-threatening injuries,” the police press release said.

The driver of the Dodge was also a 25-year-old man, and he was uninjured.

Police said damage to the truck “was minimal.”

They did not name the driver or the pedestrian.

Police closed down the intersection for more than an hour while they investigated the accident scene and diverted traffic to Back Loop Road from Glacier Spur, and Loop Road traffic back toward Mendenhall Boulevard from Grant Street.
