New Juneau Chamber board president named

Kelly Shattuck, who finishes her one year term as President of the Juneau Chamber of Commerce, receives a floral bouquet from the Chamber's CEO Cathie Roemmich during their weekly luncheon at the Moose Lodge Thursday. Incoming President Max Mertz, left, takes over the gavel as the organization's new president.

At its annual membership meeting Thursday, the Juneau Chamber of Commerce welcomed new Board of Directors President Max Mertz and filled two empty seats on the board.

This will be year five on the board for Mertz, a partner with Elgee Rehfeld Mertz, LLC. He took over the presidency from Kelly Shattuck of Shattuck & Grummett Insurance. Shattuck still has two years to serve on the board post-presidency, she said.

“Kelly’s not going anywhere,” Mertz said in his address to the Chamber of Commerce luncheon crowd at the Moose Lodge. “Now you have to deal with me for 12 months; I’ll try to make it fun.”

In his first act as president, Mertz nominated Valley Paint Center, Inc. owner Charlie Williams and Linda Thomas, Alaskan Brewing Company chief executive officer, to fill two vacant seats on the board. The audience applauded in agreement, and the two were elected.

Mertz also named board member Lance Stevens, of Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, as president elect to take over next year.
