CCFR extinguish tree fires, suspect they were intentionally set

Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to two tree fires on Sunday that were probably set intentionally, according to the fire marshal.

The first call came in at 11:35 a.m. at Auke Rec on Glacier Highway, and firefighters extinguished the flames. The second fire, which was reported at about 3:16 p.m. on Evergreen Avenue, was already out when firefighters arrived on scene.

Fire Marshal Dan Jager said it appeared as if someone set the tree sap on fire, which the flames spread from. Jager said both fires were confined to the tree and no other property was damaged. No injuries resulted, he said.

He said investigators do not have any suspects at this time.
