Multi-car accident sends two people to hospital

A damage vehicle sits along Egan Drive in front of the Fred Meyer department store after a multi-vehicle accident blocked outbound traffic around the evening rush hour Friday.

An accident on Egan Drive near Fred Meyer shut down the valley-bound side of the highway and slowed traffic heading downtown for about 40 minutes Friday.

The accident was called in to Juneau Police at 4:54 p.m.

A 1994 Subaru was hit when crossing the outbound lanes into the Fred Meyer turnoff. A 2002 Volkswagen collided with the Subaru, and two cars following the Volkswagen then crashed into the other vehicles, according to a Juneau Police Department press release

The drivers of the Subaru and Volkswagen were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital with what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation into the crash is underway. It is not yet known if any citations will be issued.
