The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two hunters after their skiff turned over near Sitka Point on Saturday, according to a USCG news release.
An Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter picked up the men and flew them safely to Air Station Sitka after watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Juneau were notified of the incident by the skiff’s owner, who was on another boat, according to the release.
The boat flipped after one of the passengers disembarked; the other climbed on top of the overturned craft until the Coast Guard arrived. It was snowing at the time. The Jayhawk crew was diverted from a training flight to help the hunters, the release stated.
