Photos: Thanksgiving prep

Zach Gordon Youth Center employee Donny Burras puts the finishing touches on the two turkeys prepared for the center’s annual Thanksgiving feast as volunteer Hilary Zander recruits teens to help prepare fruit salad Tuesday afternoon. More than 100 people — youth, their families and the center’s board — come to eat at the center
each Thanksgiving.

“Just seeing the kids with their families, that’s priceless,” Burras said. “We don’t see parents that often. When they do come it’s a nice reminder there’s someone caring for them besides us.”

In addition to the turkeys, a team of center employees, staff and youth prepared two chickens, 20 enchiladas and 20 pounds of mashed potatoes for the meal, among other dishes. Employee Larry Blatnick was in charge of the Filipino dishes — pancit and pork adobo.

“It’s definitely one of the best times of the year for the Zach,” Burras said.
