Mendenhall Valley without power

Alaska Electric Lighting and Power is currently responding to an open substation in the Mendenhall Valley that has left 3,500 customers in the valley without power.

According to AEL&P spokeswoman Debbie Driscoll, crews are on site trying to figure out the exact problem. Customers closer to Auke Bay may not be affected, she said.

It is possible power may restored within the hour if the utility provider is able to reroute services, Driscoll said. If they are not, the delay could last several hours while the problem is fixed.
