A black Sport Utility Vehicle plunged into a tidal flooding area off Egan Drive following a car crash at about 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
Police said no one was seriously injured in the accident, which took place near the Vanderbilt Hill Road intersection, just north of Twin Lakes, during snowy road conditions.
“One person was taken to the hospital due to a complaint of shoulder pain,” Lt. David Campbell, a police department spokesman, said in a phone interview. “It doesn’t sound like anything serious.”
Police believe the SUV and another vehicle were travelling the same direction on Egan Drive outbound when one clipped or side-swiped the other trying to turn. The SUV left the roadway and went into the water, Campbell said.
The Juneau Police Department blocked off one lane of traffic as officers and Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. The vehicle has since been pulled from the water by a tow truck.
Campbell said this was the fifth reported car accident in the past 24 hours.
