The Juneau police are asking the public to help identify a man involved in an armed robbery in the Costco parking lot on New Year’s Day.
Police say one man is already in custody after assaulting a 20-year-old man and his 21-year-old female companion, but his accomplice is still unidentified. The unidentified man was wearing a mask during the confrontation, and police so far have been unable to identify or locate him.
According to a statement from the Juneau Police Department, the 20-year-old male victim was Tased, punched and robbed by his friend, 29-year-old Dustin Daley. Daley allegedly took property from the man and assaulted him, as well as his female companion who tried to defend the 20-year-old when he was on the ground.
Police say the unidentified man was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a black mask with a skull on it and had a handgun during the confrontation. Police say he participated in the assaults, which were reported to police at about 10 p.m. Jan. 1.
Daley and the unidentified man left the scene in a silver Dodge pickup truck with four doors and a broken driver’s side window covered in plastic, the statement says. Police later located the vehicle in a neighborhood after an officer remembered seeing that vehicle before near the JPD station.
Police say Daley was contacted when the vehicle was found, and he was lodged at Lemon Creek Correctional Center on suspicion of first-degree robbery, two counts of fourth-degree assault and third-degree theft.
Police initially did not release information about the incident as they searched for the unidentified male and handgun. Police said danger to the general public was minimal as the victims, and Daley, reported the argument was over drugs.
Police say they found a Crown Royal bag containing heroin, a marijuana pipe and marijuana in Daley’s vehicle. The mask with the skull on it was also recovered from the pickup.
Police say the unidentified accomplice is probably someone who was “regularly around” Daley. They ask that if anyone has information regarding the case to call the JPD at 586-0600 or to report a tip to the Juneau Crime Line at juneaucrimeline.com. The Crime Line guarantees anonymity and can reward tipsters with cash.
