Healthy Fitness Challenge - Article 3

No matter how good your intentions are to work out regularly, it’s easy for life to get in the way. After a good deal of trial and error, I have learned that the best way to ensure that you stay on track is to remove potential roadblocks ahead of time. In other words, make it so easy to exercise that working out becomes a routine. Here’s one way that helps:

Schedule Your Workouts. Let’s be honest, life is busy with work, family and community commitments. Exercise isn’t going to happen unless you schedule it into your routine, like everything else that is important to you. Make a plan that sets you up for success. Schedule your workouts for the next week over the weekend. Pick a time that you’re likely able to make. Find an activity that you enjoy. And show up. If you are not a morning person and hate to run, don’t plan on jogging 3 miles at 5 am.

Here’s a little tip, schedule an extra session so when “life happens” and you must miss a workout, you’ve  given yourself a little padding and you’re still on target to meet your goals. you continue this fitness challenge, plan your workouts. Define and commit to a schedule that works with your life and have fun!  

Exercise of the week is: Walking Lunges. With feet hip distance apart, step one foot forward (about 2-3 feet). Body weight should be evenly distributed in the heel of the front foot and the toe of the back foot. Slowly lower the body straight down until. Aim for a 90 degree bend in the front knee. Bring feet back together. Step forward with the other leg. Perform 10 lunges forward, turn around, then perform 10 lunges back. See the demo at Alaska Club.
