Dryden Principal

Let's hope the School Board chooses an Alaskan to serve as principal! People from out of state NEVER last for any long periods of time!

My vote...

I don't know Ms. Hickock, or how her qualifications compare to the other candidates, however, I am inclined to weight her residency as a high mark in comparison.

Long-Term Principals

While I agree hiring from out-of-state has to be done with caution, the principals at TMHS and Harborview were both hired from out of state and have been in their positions 3+ years. They are also both excellent administrators.

Rhonda has been with the district for several years. She taught Alaska History at JDHS in the late 90s, worked in the district admin for several years after that and now as assistant principal at TMHS. She is more than a little little qualified, and needs to be given the position.

Stephanie: That is 2 out most of the outside hires that have stayed with the district. There are more that have NOT stayed!

Rhonda Well Qualified

I have worked with Ms Hickock while she was at JDHS and TMHS. I can see no reason why she should not get the FD position.

One of the best ever (according to staff, students, and coaches) JDHS principals came from Colorado and was fired by the District with the Board's blessing. Oops -they stated he "resigned". We all know it is common for most folks to buy a nice house and quit their job a week later.

I was on the hiring committee that vetted him before the hire as well as worked with him and the 3 JDHS principals before him and he was truly outstanding.

He deserved that job but Rhonda has earned the FD position by her past job performance while working for the District.
